Measuring Quality of Life Based on Geography

Estimating Quality of Life Based on Geography Maybe the most significant part of living that we now and then underestimate is the personal satisfaction that we get by living and working where we do. For example, the capacity for you to examine these words using a PC is something that may be controlled in some Middle Eastern nations and China. Indeed, even our capacity to walk securely down a road is something that a few nations (and even a few urban communities in the United States) may need. Recognizing regions with the highest caliber of life offers a significant perspective on urban areas and countries while giving data to those wanting to migrate. Measuring Quality of Life By Geography One perspective on places personal satisfaction is by the measure of yield it creates every year. This is particularly convenient on account of a nation considering numerous nations have shifting degrees of creation, contrasting assets, and unmistakable clashes and issues inside them. The significant method of estimating a countrys yield for each year is by taking a gander at the countrys total national output, or GDP. The GDP is the measure of products and enterprises created inside a nation every year and is regularly a decent sign of the measure of cash streaming all through the nation. (By and large) every year. The thought is that the more cash we have the happier we are. Top 5 Countries with the Largest GDPs Coming up next are the main five nations with the biggest GDPs in 2010 as indicated by the World Bank: 1) United States: $14,582,400,000,0002) China: $5,878,629,000,0003) Japan: $5,497,813,000,0004) Germany: $3,309,669,000,0005) France: $2,560,002,000,000 Nations with Highest-Ranked GDP Per Capita The five most elevated positioned nations as far as GDP per capita in 2010 as per the World Bank: 1) Monaco: $186,1752) Liechtenstein: $134,3923) Luxembourg: $108,7474) Norway: $84,8805) Switzerland: $67,236 It appears that little evolved nations are positioned the most elevated as far according to capita salary. This is a decent pointer to perceive what the normal pay is of a nation yet can be somewhat deceptive since these little nations are likewise probably the most extravagant and, in this manner, must be the most wealthy. Since this marker can be somewhat misshaped because of the populace size, there exist different elements which further educate quality regarding life. Human Poverty Index Another measurement for seeing how well-off a countrys people are is to mull over the Human Poverty Index (HPI) of the nation. The HPI for creating nations speaks to personal satisfaction by planning the likelihood of not getting by to age 40, the grown-up education rate, and the normal measure of the countrys populace who have practically zero access to clean drinking water. While the viewpoint for this measurement is apparently troubling, it provides significant intimations with respect to what nations are in an ideal situation. There is a second HPI that is utilized for the most part for those nations that are viewed as evolved. The United States, Sweden, and Japan are genuine models. The perspectives that are detailed for this HPI are the likelihood of not making due to age 60, the quantity of grown-ups lacking utilitarian proficiency abilities, the level of theâ population with pay beneath the neediness line, and the pace of joblessness enduring longer than a year. Different Measures and Indicators of Quality of Life A notable overview that draws in a great deal of universal consideration is the Mercer Quality of Living Survey. The yearly rundown puts New York City with a gauge score of 100 to go about as the middle for every single other city to contrast and. The rankings think about a wide range of angles from neatness and security to culture and foundation. The rundown is an entirely significant asset for aspiring organizations hoping to set up an office universally, and furthermore for bosses to choose the amount to pay at specific workplaces. As of late, Mercer calculated in natural agreeableness into their condition for urban communities with the most noteworthy characteristics of life as a methods for better qualifying what makes an incredible city. There exist a couple of irregular pointers for estimating personal satisfaction too. For instance, the lord of Bhutan during the 1970s (Jigme Singye Wangchuck) chose to update the Bhutanese economy by having every individual from the nation take a stab at satisfaction rather than cash. He felt that GDP was seldom a decent marker of joy as the pointer neglects to consider natural and environmental upgrades and their belongings, yet incorporates safeguard consumptions that once in a while advantage a countrys satisfaction. He built up a marker called Gross National Happiness (GNH), which is to some degree hard to quantify. For example, while GDP is a simple count of products and enterprises sold inside a nation, GNH doesnt have much for quantitative measures. In any case, researchers have attempted their best to make a type of quantitative estimation and have seen a countrys GNH as an element of the prosperity of a human in monetary, ecological, political, social, work environment, physical, and mental terms. These terms, when amassed and broke down, can characterize how upbeat a country is. There are additionally various different approaches to evaluate ones personal satisfaction. A subsequent option is the authentic advancement marker (GPI) which is like GDP however rather hopes to check whether a countrys development has really improved individuals off in that country. For example, if the budgetary expenses of violations, ecological debasement, and regular asset misfortunes are higher than the monetary benefits made through creation, at that point the countrys development is uneconomic. One analyst who has made an approach to break down patterns in information and development is the Swedish scholastic Hans Rosling. His creation, Gapminder Foundation, has ordered a lot of valuable information for general society to get to, and even a visualizer, which considers a client to take a gander at patterns after some time. It is an incredible instrument for anybody inspired by development or wellbeing insights.

We are artists writers

We are artists writers Its important to recognize that while MIT is known for top-notch engineering and science programs, this school actually has the resources to foster all kinds of creative juice. I wanted to introduce one such example, and that is RUNE, MITs journal of art and literature. Having partaken in a literary magazine in high school, I knew it was something I want to continue doing. So what is RUNE as a club like? We are a group of MIT students (both undergraduate and graduate) who really enjoy creative writing and the visual arts. But more importantly, we believe that we can tap into the wealth of creative gems embedded in all the scientific/engineering ingenuity at MIT. Basically, RUNE solicits art and literature submissions from the MIT community and meets weekly to review those submissions for inclusion in a glossy magazine published annually at the end of the spring semester. Truth be told, RUNE is traditionally small, with a staff never far beyond 10, and low-key; think of us as a weekly reading club …that produces a beautiful magazine at the end of the school year. I personally like the mellowness that way, its easier to avoid bureaucracy, value each staff members opinions (which do often conflict), and focus on the creative works. To me, RUNE is at once a bigger mission to support the arts @ MIT as well as a weekly relaxation session. We meet every Sunday at 2PM, on some cozy futons in a small room in the Student Center. Packed into the hourly meetings are art and literature submissions that paint places as close and mundane as MIT and as far-away and unfathomable as the limits of fantasy allow. Certainly a change of rhythm from the chaos of the same old coursework during the week. Here are some scans of artworks from our latest issue. (See more works by Dorian 11 here) What do you think? In any case, just putting it out there that there are two things we constantly need at RUNE and they are submissions and funding. We need submissions to compile a quality magazine, and funding to keep it free for the MIT community.  So if youre a member of the MIT community, feel free to submit your best creative work. For literature:  [emailprotected]  For art:    [emailprotected] ….. And if anyone has any leads on relevant sources of grants/funding, please let me know in the comments. Thanks! Lastly, while RUNE captures the art in text and images…there are some incredible living breathing instances of natural art that must be savored live-action. OMG! An Introduction to Computer Programming 2019

Computer programming has grown in complexity and dimension to the point that there is probably no single person who can claim expertise in all of its areas. Those areas are principally defined by computer languages: the PC world has become a virtual United Nations of programming languages. Many are similar, some stand alone, but all of them together present an enormous amount of knowledge. Some of the more popular computer languages include C++; Visual Basic; COBOL; Perl; SQL; XML and Java. This is a small sampling and there are variations on some of these in use as well, such as Visual Basic.net and JavaScript. So very quickly one can get lost in the assortment of programming tools that is used to create applications. However the concept of programming, the basics of assembling an application maintains continuity throughout this assortment of options. Because you are programming on a Microsoft platform or a UNIX platform, some basic standards are always in play. At this introductory level, computer programming can be clearly explained and taught. Once you grasp the basics, it becomes a matter of utilizing different tools in the same work space. .u0b2eae297ebc241b3edf024f2edb9fea { padding:0px; margin: 0; padding-top:1em!important; padding-bottom:1em!important; width:100%; display: block; font-weight:bold; background-color:#eaeaea; border:0!important; border-left:4px solid #34495E!important; box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -moz-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -o-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -webkit-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); text-decoration:none; } .u0b2eae297ebc241b3edf024f2edb9fea:active, .u0b2eae297ebc241b3edf024f2edb9fea:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; text-decoration:none; } .u0b2eae297ebc241b3edf024f2edb9fea { transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; } .u0b2eae297ebc241b3edf024f2edb9fea .ctaText { font-weight:bold; color:inherit; text-decoration:none; font-size: 16px; } .u0b2eae297ebc241b3edf024f2edb9fea .post Title { color:#000000; text-decoration: underline!important; font-size: 16px; } .u0b2eae297ebc241b3edf024f2edb9fea:hover .postTitle { text-decoration: underline!important; } READ Maryland Colleges and Universities Pursuing Online and Campus-based Education in MarylandIntroductory programming is taught at virtually every institution of higher learning in this country. However there is no better place to pursue an understanding of programming than online, on the instrument for which programming is created: your computer. There are a number of tutorial sites on the internet that provide instruction from individuals versed in one language or another. Despite the free advice, the best way to learn computer programming online is through an online college, where professional teachers develop courses that are clearly presented. Learning programming through an accredited institution will also get you a certificate of proficiency or a degree in computer programming, which will be critical for a job search. Finding the computer programming classes you want may be an exercise in semantics. Some people in the field view the term computer engineering as including the programming profession. For example, Colorado Technical University has an online masters degree program in computer engineering that lists these areas of focus: advanced software development; testing evaluation; database management; and software engineering. A case can be made that this degree is really about computer programming. Some in the industry maintain, however, that computer engineering is the science of designing software, and that programming is the task of writing the computer code to make the program work. In either case, you dont need a masters degree to get into programming. Kaplan University has online programs for an associates degree in programming as well as a bachelors degree in programming. If you have college credits to transfer, obtaining these degrees might be possible in thirteen to eighteen months for the associate degree, and two to three years for the bachelors. Even without previous college experience, online degrees can be achieved more quickly than at traditional universities. Kaplan also offers a certification program entitled Introduction to Computer Programming, which can be completed in a matter of months. .u1d1f02c70f8a423b9ec2b4c22c538526 { padding:0px; margin: 0; padding-top:1em!important; padding-bottom:1em!important; width:100%; display: block; font-weight:bold; background-color:#eaeaea; border:0!important; border-left:4px solid #34495E!important; box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -moz-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -o-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -webkit-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); text-decoration:none; } .u1d1f02c70f8a423b9ec2b4c22c538526:active, .u1d1f02c70f8a423b9ec2b4c22c538526:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; text-decoration:none; } .u1d1f02c70f8a423b9ec2b4c22c538526 { transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; } .u1d1f02c70f8a423b9ec2b4c22c538526 .ctaText { font-weight:bold; color:inherit; text-decoration:none; font-size: 16px; } .u1d1f02c70f8a423b9ec2b4c22c538526 .post Title { color:#000000; text-decoration: underline!important; font-size: 16px; } .u1d1f02c70f8a423b9ec2b4c22c538526:hover .postTitle { text-decoration: underline!important; } READ On-line education changes the way we think of college lifeYou can begin your computer programming education at any level. Digital Fortress Chapter 40 Free Essays

Outside Node 3, Chartrukian looked desperate. He was trying to convince Hale that TRANSLTR was in trouble. Susan raced by them with only one thought in mind-to find Strathmore. We will write a custom essay sample on Digital Fortress Chapter 40 or any similar topic only for you Order Now The panicked Sys-Sec grabbed Susan’s arm as she passed. â€Å"Ms. Fletcher! We have a virus! I’m positive! You have to-â€Å" Susan shook herself free and glared ferociously. â€Å"I thought the commander told you to go home.† â€Å"But the Run-Monitor! It’s registering eighteen-â€Å" â€Å"Commander Strathmore told you to go home!† â€Å"FUCK STRATHMORE!† Chartrukian screamed, the words resounding throughout the dome. A deep voice boomed from above. â€Å"Mr. Chartrukian?† The three Crypto employees froze. High above them, Strathmore stood at the railing outside his office. For a moment, the only sound inside the dome was the uneven hum of the generators below. Susan tried desperately to catch Strathmore’s eye. Commander! Hale is North Dakota! But Strathmore was fixated on the young Sys-Sec. He descended the stairs without so much as a blink, keeping his eyes trained on Chartrukian the whole way down. He made his way across the Crypto floor and stopped six inches in front of the trembling technician. â€Å"What did you say?† â€Å"Sir,† Chartrukian choked, â€Å"TRANSLTR’s in trouble.† â€Å"Commander?† Susan interjected. â€Å"If I could-â€Å" Strathmore waved her off. His eyes never left the Sys-Sec. Phil blurted, â€Å"We have an infected file, sir. I’m sure of it!† Strathmore’s complexion turned a deep red. â€Å"Mr. Chartrukian, we’ve been through this. There is no file infecting TRANSLTR!† â€Å"Yes, there is!† he cried. â€Å"And if it makes its way to the main databank-â€Å" â€Å"Where the hell is this infected file?† Strathmore bellowed. â€Å"Show it to me!† Chartrukian hesitated. â€Å"I can’t.† â€Å"Of course you can’t! It doesn’t exist!† Susan said, â€Å"Commander, I must-â€Å" Again Strathmore silenced her with an angry wave. Susan eyed Hale nervously. He seemed smug and detached. It makes perfect sense, she thought. Hale wouldn’t be worried about a virus; he knows what’s really going on inside TRANSLTR. Chartrukian was insistent. â€Å"The infected file exists, sir. But Gauntlet never picked it up.† â€Å"If Gauntlet never picked it up,† Strathmore fumed, â€Å"then how the hell do you know it exists?† Chartrukian suddenly sounded more confident. â€Å"Mutation strings, sir. I ran a full analysis, and the probe turned up mutation strings!† Susan now understood why the Sys-Sec was so concerned. Mutation strings, she mused. She knew mutation strings were programming sequences that corrupted data in extremely complex ways. They were very common in computer viruses, particularly viruses that altered large blocks of data. Of course, Susan also knew from Tankado’s E-mail that the mutation strings Chartrukian had seen were harmless-simply part of Digital Fortress. The Sys-Sec went on. â€Å"When I first saw the strings, sir, I thought Gauntlet’s filters had failed. But then I ran some tests and found out†¦Ã¢â‚¬ He paused, looking suddenly uneasy. â€Å"I found out that somebody manually bypassed Gauntlet.† The statement met with a sudden hush. Strathmore’s face turned an even deeper shade of crimson. There was no doubt whom Chartrukian was accusing; Strathmore’s terminal was the only one in Crypto with clearance to bypass Gauntlet’s filters. When Strathmore spoke, his voice was like ice. â€Å"Mr. Chartrukian, not that it is any concern of yours, but I bypassed Gauntlet.† He went on, his temper hovering near the boiling point. â€Å"As I told you earlier, I’m running a very advanced diagnostic. The mutation strings you see in TRANSLTR are part of that diagnostic; they are there because I put them there. Gauntlet refused to let me load the file, so I bypassed its filters.† Strathmore’s eyes narrowed sharply at Chartrukian. â€Å"Now, will there be anything else before you go?† In a flash, it all clicked for Susan. When Strathmore had downloaded the encrypted Digital Fortress algorithm from the Internet and tried to run it through TRANSLTR, the mutation strings had tripped Gauntlet’s filters. Desperate to know whether Digital Fortress was breakable, Strathmore decided to bypass the filters. Normally, bypassing Gauntlet was unthinkable. In this situation, however, there was no danger in sending Digital Fortress directly into TRANSLTR; the commander knew exactly what the file was and where it came from. â€Å"With all due respect, sir,† Chartrukian pressed, â€Å"I’ve never heard of a diagnostic that employs mutation-â€Å" â€Å"Commander,† Susan interjected, not able to wait another moment. â€Å"I really need to-â€Å" This time her words were cut short by the sharp ring of Strathmore’s cellular phone. The commander snatched up the receiver. â€Å"What is it!† he barked. Then he fell silent and listened to the caller. Susan forgot about Hale for an instant. She prayed the caller was David. Tell me he’s okay, she thought. Tell me he found the ring! But Strathmore caught her eye and he gave her a frown. It was not David. Susan felt her breath grow short. All she wanted to know was that the man she loved was safe. Strathmore, Susan knew, was impatient for other reasons; if David took much longer, the commander would have to send backup-NSA field agents. It was a gamble he had hoped to avoid. â€Å"Commander?† Chartrukian urged. â€Å"I really think we should check-â€Å" â€Å"Hold on,† Strathmore said, apologizing to his caller. He covered his mouthpiece and leveled a fiery stare at his young Sys-Sec. â€Å"Mr. Chartrukian,† he growled, â€Å"this discussion is over. You are to leave Crypto. Now. That’s an order.† Chartrukian stood stunned. â€Å"But, sir, mutation str-â€Å" â€Å"NOW!† Strathmore bellowed. Chartrukian stared a moment, speechless. Then he stormed off toward the Sys-Sec lab. Strathmore turned and eyed Hale with a puzzled look. Susan understood the commander’s mystification. Hale had been quiet-too quiet. Hale knew very well there was no such thing as a diagnostic that used mutation strings, much less one that could keep TRANSLTR busy eighteen hours. And yet Hale hadn’t said a word. He appeared indifferent to the entire commotion. Strathmore was obviously wondering why. Susan had the answer. â€Å"Commander,† she said insistently, â€Å"if I could just speak-â€Å" â€Å"In a minute,† he interjected, still eyeing Hale quizzically. â€Å"I need to take this call.† With that, Strathmore turned on his heel and headed for his office. Susan opened her mouth, but the words stalled on the tip of her tongue. Hale is North Dakota! She stood rigid, unable to breathe. She felt Hale staring at her. Susan turned. Hale stepped aside and swung his arm graciously toward the Node 3 door. â€Å"After you, Sue.† How to cite Digital Fortress Chapter 40, Essay examples

Marketing Strategies of Chestnut Exchange Cafe

Question: Discuss about theMarketing Strategies of Chestnut Exchange Cafe. Answer: Marketing Strategy Marketing strategy provides the details about how the 4Ps of marketing i.e. price; product, place and promotion are to be used to achieve the objectives of marketing plan of the business. It is very important to implement right and proper marketing strategy in the business operation because there are different types of customers in the market. They have different taste and preferences for products and services available in the market (Kotler Keller, 2005). The Chestnut Exchange Caf has to adopt some marketing strategies to achieve some objectives. These objectives include: Developing new business strategy for providing full bar service, Identifying new marketing channels for taking online orders, Managing operations to increase brand image, and Developing trained and skills managers for the caf (Solomon, 2011). The caf is trying to create its good brand image among the customers in Australian market. To achieve the above discussed objectives, the caf should focus on some operations. The caf should offer those products which are seasonal and locality specific across the country. Marketing strategy mix should be designed by the caf for the growth and effective impact. The product offering by the caf should be modified to create the local taste to attract the customers. Caf should change its advertising strategy to increase the brand image. It should increase its stores in the country and should focus on using stores for advertising rather than using brand ambassador (Stickler, 2011). The Chestnut Exchange Caf should keep on adding new stores in prime locations of the country. For increasing stores, the caf should focus on planning and proper construction. For increasing popularity of the products, caf should adopt new innovations and introduction in the products. For online orders, caf must c reate an online portal and app so that customers can order their favourite food by online channels. For implanting these strategies, caf must appoint trained managers who would be able to take care of the operations to achieve the objectives of the marketing plan (Sadler, 2003). Conclusion Thus, from the all discussion, it has been analysed that the Chestnut Exchange Caf is famous in Australia for its good food and coffee. But there are some issues and problems in the operations and strategies of the Chestnut Exchange Caf. The report has been given the marketing plan for the caf. The plan would be helpful for the caf to address the current issues and to attract more and more customers. It has been analysed that, as compared to other caf, Chestnut Exchange Caf doesnt have much branches. Thus, it is important to increase the branches so that customers could visit the caf according to the availability. References Kotler, P. Keller K. L. The Year 2000 Essays - Software Bugs, Computer Programming

The Year 2000 Introduction Many may dismiss the predictions that there would be a worldwide chaos on January 1, 2000 as many computers programmed with two-digit year fields would mistake it to be 1900 and breakdown. However, we need not wait for the turn of the century for the trouble. Signs of early troubles are already everywhere to sufficiently warrant both IT and business managers to take the issue seriously, if they have not already done so. What seemed as a reasonable solution to costly storage problem in past, would now cost, by some estimates, 600 Billion dollars to organizations worldwide. No matter what the final cost comes out to be, even at conservative 300 billion dollars, it is no pocket change. All concern parties must have thorough understanding of the problem, its solutions, and possible ramifications. Importance of the Issue IT managers are not the only one who needs to understand the depth of Y2K problem. Business managers probably has more in stake here than any one else. If ti mely solutions are not achieved, many business stands to lose many billions of dollars in form of lost revenues. This loss does not include possible losses resulting from litigation and out-of-court settlements. Many firms, including some large ones, have continued to drag their feet on fixing Y2K related problems. Companies with Y2K problems now often cannot find people to work on those problems. Shortages of qualified people to work on Y2K projects are very evident globally. January 1st, 2000 is a non-flexible date that is sure to come without any mercy and possibility of extension. If companies are not addressing it by now, they are simply playing catch-up(14). The good news is that the technical know-how exists and many tools are available. For many organizations, problem can be adequately addressed even if they start now but for a higher cost, of course. Historical Perspective In 1956, Howard Aiken, a computer pioneer from Harvard University remarked: If it should ever turn ou t that basic logic of a machine design for numerical solution of differential equations coincide with the logic of a machine intended to make bills for a department store, I would regard this as the most amazing coincidence that I have ever encountered.(1) First, it was truly an amazing coincidence. Second, the first generation of computer programmers were also right by recording years as two digit numbers. It saved costly storage capacity. Third, by another amazing chance, the result of a correct decision will be an expensive (may be the most expensive) industrial accident of our time. Many articles have included stories that show the date problem surfacing as early as 1993: In 1993, associated Press reported that Mary Bandar of Minnesota was invited to attend kindergarten classes, since she was born in 88. She was born in 1888 and was 104 years old. C.G. Blodgetts auto insurance premium tripled when he was reclassified as youthful high-risk driver. He turned 101. What is the Year 2000 problem? It is not one, but series of problems. It Involves software, computer hardware, data, people, and large amounts of money. Nature of these problems can be explained simply: until 1989, all of the standards followed to create computer programs stated that only last two digits would be used to identify the year. As the millennium nears, most computers would regard 2000 as 1900. In late 1800s, Mr. Hollerith invented the punch card with 80 columns to help the U.S. Census done on time. Same cards has been in use for programming until recent time. Eighty characters of information was barely enough for a full name and address. To save space for more important information, programmers designated two-digit year field assuming all years would have same prefix of 19. Even when computers were later equipped with larger storage capacities in magnetic form, memory was the most expensive part of the machine and programmers continued to use two-digit year field to save memory. How the problem continued Programmers of 1960s and 1970s assumed that these program would long be replaced with new ones before the turn of the century. Though the computer hardware has come a long ways in past 30 years, the mainframe machine is

Resistance to Technology essays

Resistance to Technology essays Technology. What would we do without it? Probably have a lot less fun and have a lot shorter life span. Think about it, you couldnt watch Dawsons Creek or Friends every week. That would mean that the lives of millions of teenage girls in America would cease to exist. And yet there are still some people who are afraid of new technology. Theyre afraid of a technology that could improve the lives of Americans just because they saw a couple of science fiction movies where an extremely unlikely situation occurred and all hell broke loose. When in reality precautions are made to ensure that things like that wont happen. Super-intelligent sharks wont become smarter than humans and nearly escape to rule the world like they did in the movie Deep Blue Sea. One technology that people seem to most fear is cloning. Specifically one of my friends raised a good point about the subject, she said that in her high school they had a debate about cloning and the side against cloning stated that if there was an exact genetic clone of yourself and this clone went out and committed a whole bunch of crimes, then how would they know who did it unless you had an alibi. Another thing that people seem to be afraid of when it comes to cloning is the religious aspect. Many see cloning as being too close to playing god. They dont think that specifically sorting out genes and selecting which traits their children will have is morally correct. But theres a flipside to this in that if we can select which traits our children will have, we may be able to eliminate hereditary diseases like cystic fibrosis or sickle cell anemia. It all depends on how the question is phrased. If I were to ask somebody, Should we be able to change the genetic traits of our children, they would most likely respond negatively. However, if the question was phrased as Should ...

Intellectual Property - Essay Example Background of the research Arguments for intellectual property have taken many forms because the high rate of technological advancement makes people introduce new ways of misconduct. Individual personality is the extension of intellectual property because it introduces social progress and innovation incentives. Even justification of rights is related to merit and labor, the government should take a step forward to prevent people’s intellectual property. On the other hand, some organizations want the government to abolish the issue of intellectual property because it makes some big companies take advantage of emerging industries. Most people argue that the intellectual works on the basis of restricted access, but intellectual works are consumed by their use and many people are capable of using them concurrently. Intellectual property aims at protecting other people’s properties through introducing rules and regulations related to internet and technology. Organizations st ore crucial information that enable them carry out their business plans without crashing into one another’s plans. Violation of intellectual property rules leads to some industries having similar trademarks, or patents. In addition, economists have introduced economies of intellectual property that provides the basic requirements for an industry enter into the world of economies today (Lemley 1031). Types of intellectual property Intellectual property covers entrepreneurs in all categories from the small scale to large scale to assist in the protection of valuable assets of a company like the company logo, advertising instruments, list of consumers, and the unique ways of carrying out its activities (Bagley and Dauchy 23-52). The government has puts up policies to help in the protection of the intellectual property which every entrepreneur must follow. Copyrights Copyright forms the most crucial type of intellectual property that has greatly affected many industries, includin g software producing companies, music industries, multimedia, and entertainment sectors. Copyrights help in protecting the original expression of someone or an organization fixed in a tangible form. One of the commonest methods of copyright protection is through displaying a copyright notice on the product to make the user know the good protection by the copyright law, gives the producer, and the first time of publication. Copyright also gives the owner the right to get economic advantages from the product and the right to prevent duplication and selling of the work. Every person has the right over the ideas created and holds the responsibility to get all the benefits, which come because of that achievement and have the mandate to dictate who uses the idea for business purposes. The copyright covers all areas including computer programs and electronic databases. Trademarks Trademarks assist business industries in improving their image towards attracting more customers by increasing the quality of products and services offered. Trademark makes products and services more reliable, brings about innovations, and improves business performance. Good examples of well known trademarks globally include NIKE, AON, Mercedes-Benz, and Intel Inside. Protecting intellectual prop

Human Genetic Disorder

Human Genetic Disorder HUMAN GENETIC DISORDER Introduction Human Genetic Disorder is a kind of illness which is caused by chromosomes or genes abnormalities. Some disorders like cancer are in part of genetic disorders but they can also be caused by environmental factors. Many disorders are quite rare and they affect one person in a million. There are some types of recessive gene disorders which have an advantage in heterozygous states in some environments. Both genetic and environmental factors play a role in development of any kind of disorder. Human genetic disorder is caused by abnormalities of individuals of genetic materials. There are four types of genetic disorders; single-gene, chromosomal, multifactorial and mitochondrial. Single gene disorder is caused by a single mutated gene. This disorder can be passed on in successive generations in various ways. This disorder is caused mainly by mutation or changes of the DNA sequence in one gene. Multifactorial is caused by a combination of mutation of multiple genes and environmental factors . Chromosomal is caused by abnormalities caused by chromosomes. Mitochondrial is a genetic disorder caused by mutation in the mitochondria nonchromosomal DNA (Driel, et.al, 57). Single-gene is caused by mutation in the DNA. Gene codes for proteins which are the molecules which carry out most of the work does most of functions in life and even make up various cellular structures. After gene mutation for its proteins product not to carry out its usual functions, this leads to disorder. There are many single-gene disorders which occur in one out of 200 births. Examples include sickle cell anemia, cystic fibrosis, Marfan syndrome, heredity hemochromatosis and Huntingtons disease. Single-gene disorders are hereditary in identifiable structures. Combination of mutation of multiple genes and environmental factors leads to multifactorial (Bennet, 896). There are various types of genes which influence vulnerability to breast cancer which has been found on different chromosomes. Due to complicated nature of chromosomes, this makes it difficult to analyze chromosomal and single-gene disorders. Most of the common chronic disorders are multifactorial. Examples of this di sorder include Alzheimers, high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, obesity and cancer. Inheritance of multifactorial is associated with genetic characteristics like height, fingerprint, skin color and eye color (Watson, 44). Chromosomal disorder is associated with chromosomes. Chromosomes are distinct structures which make up protein and DNA. Chromosomes which are mainly the carriers of heritable materials like chromosome structures abnormalities as missing leads to disease. The major abnormalities of chromosomal can be detected using microscopic examination. Trisomy 21 or Down syndrome is a common disorder which occurs when one has copies of chromosome 21. Mitochondrial disorder caused by mutation in nonchromosomal mitochondria DNA. Many genes are named after the disorder they are associated with. The normal functioning of gene is encoded with protein and this is not associated with cause of illness. Diseases linked with genetics occur when genes are not in a position to work properly. The hemochromatosis gene really codes for membrane protein after mutation of the gene in a manner which prevents if from encoding a functional and normal protein products (Milunsky, 67). Human genetic disorder is mainly caused by different kind of gene known as variation or modification of gene known as mutation. There are many diseases which are associated with the aspects of genes. Some like cancer are caused by gene mutation. Mutation can occur randomly or due to exposure to the environment like smoke from cigarette. Some of genetic disorders are inherited. Mutated genes are passed down from one generation to another through a family and each child can inherit those genes which causes the disorder. Other genetic disorders are because of problems with different number of packages of genes known as chromosomes like Down syndrome. Human genetic disorders are the main cause of death, disability and human tragedy. It is rare to find in a family which is entirely free from any kind of genetic disorder. Genetic defects are mainly known to cause pregnancy loss in developed countries and several spontaneous miscarriages involve fetus with abnormal chromosomes (McKusick, 15 ). Human genetic disorder is caused by nondisjunction which is the failure of chromosomes to replicate during the Anaphase II. Genes lacking chromosomes are not able to produce an embryo which is viable. Nondisjunction is most often linked with 21st chromosome giving rise to Down syndrome which increases chances of developing Alzheimers disease. Human genetic disorder is caused by abnormal genes groups which are passed down from one generation to another. Spontaneous mutation of genes is caused by error in the replication of DNA resulting in substitution base or insertion or deletion of one or two pair base from the DNA. Other disorder like somatic genetic disease is caused by sudden appearance of abnormal type of gene in one part of the body like cancer. Others like chromosomal abnormality are caused by abnormalities in the structure of chromosomes causing Down syndrome (Green and Waterston, 1968). Human genetic disorder can be diagnosed. Genetic test can be performed to determine whether the person has or doesnt have the disease even as early as during fetus. This testing is known as antenatal testing. Chromosome test can also be performed to diagnose human genetic disorder. Diagnostic of human genetic disorder is conducted for chromosome disorders, congenital malformations, mental retardation, infertility, learning disabilities, miscarriages, metabolic and molecular disorders and paternity. There are available genetic services for all prenatal, pediatric and adult genetic disorders such as Alzheimers, cancer, heart disease and other late disease onsets. Defects of birth lead to death of infants. There are infants who are diagnosed with the main genetic disorders. Genes and DNA performs are arranged on chromosomes. There are no genes which really cause disease. Mutations in the genes caused serious genetic disorder. Gene mutation in chromosomes caused disorder. Not all mutatio ns of genes lead to genetic disorder because some are unexpressed without any noticeable effect to the organism (Baird, et.al, 678). Conclusion Human genetic disorder occurs due to abnormalities of individuals of genetic materials. Human genetic disorders are of different types depending on the causes. There are four types of genetic disorders; single-gene, chromosomal, multifactorial and mitochondrial. Genetic disorders are mainly caused by mutation of genes and DNA. Each type of disorder has different cause. For example chromosomal disorder is caused by mutation of chromosomes. Swap of DNA by chromosomes to form variety of the gene pool can result to disorder leading to exchange of regions. Through abnormalities of genes and chromosomes human genetic disorder occurs. Some disease like cancer is as a result of genetic disorder but they can occur because of environmental factors. Most human genetic disorders are rare and they affect one person in a million. Some recessive gene disorders give advantage to the heterozygous states in some environments. Harvard Admissions Essay: Lessons Learned :: College Admissions Essays

Lessons Learned Are Lessons Lived A few years ago, while helping my grandfather plant pecan trees in Tennessee, I realized something a bit disturbing. My grandfather never would live long enough to see those trees mature and produce pecans. Yet, there he was, toiling away with no possibility of personal benefit. When I asked him why he would plant trees knowing he would never enjoy the harvest, he just smiled and shook his head. Then he said, "Son, of all the pecans I've eaten in my life, someone else had planted the tree. They thought enough of me to plant trees, so I could have pecans. I'm just thinking of the next generation." In that moment, I realized that all people are takers, but only a few people become givers. Being a taker comes naturally. From the moment a baby is born, it takes. It wants food and warmth and comfort. If no one fulfills the baby's desire, it screams until it gets whatever it wants. Becoming a giver in life takes time and instruction. We must be taught to share. We must learn to give. Unfortunately, most people never learn to really give. They give, but they expect something in return. They are still selfish. A selfish child becomes a selfish teenager who becomes a selfish adult. If a person has never developed a lifestyle of giving by their teen years, I doubt they ever will. A college degree or a high-paying job can change their income but not their heart. Through my teen years, I volunteered at least two days a week at The Master's Outreach in my hometown. The Master's Outreach is a non-profit organization, which helps feed and clothe the needy. We even went to Central America once to take clothes, food, medicine, and other supplies. On other occasions, we sent supplies to help hurricane victims. Each one of these projects required a lot of time and effort by a few people willing to give. By now, volunteer work has become part of my life. I intend to continue giving during my college career at Jones Community College and then, Mississippi State University where I will pursue a degree in architecture. With a college degree, I will have even more opportunities to serve my community. As an architect, I would like to become involved with Habitat for Humanity because they have such a good reputation and will be able to use my particular skills.

Critical Thinking on An Analysis of Sustainable Eco Agriculture Plan

Sustainable development refers to a process whereby the future generations receive as much or even more capital per capita as compared to what the current generation has available (Serageldin 1996a, 1996b). This eco agriculture plan is a practical example of sustainable development plan since it aims at maximizing agricultural production while minimizing environmental harm, and paying attention to conservation of biodiversity. The key goal of this plan is to have farmers maximize their production with minimal waste and pollution, conserve soil, water and wild species while trying to maintain a natural ecosystem using a mix of crops, grasses and trees. (Scherr McNeely 2008). There lessons from eco agriculture case that can be applied in other situations. To begin with, there is need to endorse agricultural sustainability which aims at maximizing agricultural production bearing in mind the rapidly increasing population. There is also need to endorse biodiversity conservation since we all depend on the environment for our living. The eco agriculture plan has incorporated the community around (farmers) which is a key Critical Success Factor for the plan to succeed. (Scherr McNeely 2008). There are several barriers that exist in the society and hinder implementation of sustainable development plan. One of the barriers is institution barriers which may comprise legal challenges and irregularities which may include cases such as unclear land tenure and relative inaccessibility. Another barrier is cultural barrier where the overall plan fails to incorporate, promote and integrate the culture of the people. Economic barrier includes lack of planning for land and natural resource use in accordance with ecological limitations and opportunities. Finally, governance is another barrier that translates into inability to produce enough equitable economic development and social services to catch up with population growth and environmental protection.
